Another ovulation! This black pastel girl was bred to my orange dream pinstripe. I think this triple could be interesting!

Early morning ovulation!

This enchi girl was bred with my blade clown male.

Another ovulation…

This one is from our 2007 het hypo female... hoping to hit some hypo enchis with this clutch!

Gotta take the good with the bad…

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

This past Tuesday marked another first for us in the realm of keeping snakes, but it wasn't a good first.  I came home from work to find one of our breeding girls that had been fine that morning dead in her cage.  On top of that, our black pastel yellowbelly male was currently in the cage with her -- let the worrying about something that could affect the rest of the collection begin!  We quickly called our reptile vet and made an appointment for a necropsy the following night.  After a ninety minute drive we were relieved to learn that it was nothing contagious, and nothing that we were responsible for.  It turned out that she had ovarian cancer and the tumor had ruptured, causing her to bleed out into the lower half of her body.

RIP Speckles, 2006-2012

On to the good news!  We've had a couple more ovulations, one of which happens to be one of our 'superblack' sumatran short tailed pythons!  We had bought them as a male and female pair, but I guess this is definite proof that the 'male' is really a female... it'll be interesting to see what comes out of this girl.  Hopefully we'll end up with a male that looks as good as her to become one of our breeders.

First ovulation of 2012!

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Found our first ovulation of 2012 tonight!  Looking forward to this clutch... this girl has consistantly produced great looking babies, and had 7 or 8 follicles in her when I palpated.  She was bred to our Tom Barnhart produced black pastel yellowbelly, hopefully I can hit a couple of combos in this clutch!

No mistaking that one!

And there it is!

The ovulation that is!

Another ovulation…

This time from our albino girl.  We've got our fingers crossed for some albino spiders!

Het. Clown ovulation!

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

It's been a long two years waiting for this girl to go again!  We struck out the first time she produced and ended up with 2.2 66% possible het. clowns.  I've been feeling 7 follicles in her, so we've definitely got a better chance of ending up with a clown or two this time.

Het. Hypo ovulation…

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

It's girls like this that almost make hypo's seem co-dom!  Wasn't sure originally if I was catching the tail end of an ovulation or if she was just building, but she went into shed a few days ago -- almost exactly 2 weeks to the day. At the moment I'm considering her cooked, I can't for the life of me get a good palpation on her. Soon as I get near where the follicles/eggs would be she tenses right up solid. It's like trying to palpate a piece of pvc pipe!

Another one for the books…

Ovulation!  This is the banded girl that has been bred to our enchi.  She's got six monster follicles in her, hopefully they'll all be healthy eggs!  She should be dropping them right about the same time as the first clutch is hatching, just in time for the long wait to start all over again.

First ovulation!

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Not only is this the first ovulation of the season for us (as far as I know) but this is also the first ovulation that we've actually managed to catch!  She's been bred mainly by our lesser, but there were a few times that the enchi and the pastel got in there with her near the beginning of the season and last season.
