Clutch three is out…

Saturday, June 30th, 2012

Good odds morph wise, not so good sex wise.  Ended up with 1.0 kingpin, 1.0 pinstripe, 1.1 lessers, and 1.1 normals.  I was really hoping that kingpin was a female, but I've got a few more shots at hatching some out this season.  Next clutch isn't due to hatch until the end of July, but I can't wait until it does.  That one will be my first shot at hatching out some orange dreams!

Clutch 3 is on the ground!

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Clutch number 3 for this year was just laid by our smallest breeding girl, who also happens to be the first girl we purchased.  She's one of those girls who ate fine but just never grew into a big snake.  Since breeding her (and getting eggs!) for the first time last year she's actually started growing a little bit more, this year she weighs just over 1000 grams after laying.  She was paired with the kingpin mainly, but near the end I started throwing the black pastel yellowbelly in with her also, so there's potential for a good mix of morphs to be hatching out of these six eggs.

I also just realized today that our pinstripe girl snuck an ovulation by me!  I don't really have any sort of set schedule for palpating, so it had been a while since I checked her out.  She just shed this past weekend and I noticed she was hugging the back wall where the heat is in my adult racks.  So I pulled her out and palpated her, and sure enough she's got eight or nine eggs her!  I'll be looking forward to that clutch, she was bred to both our vanilla and our orange dream males.

I’m a slacker!

Monday, March 7th, 2011

I've been working lots of overtime and haven't had a whole lot of free time, I really need to get things caught up on here!  We've had two ovulations so far with a third to come in the next week or so.  It's looking like we're going to have a fewer number of clutches this year, but that's fine by me.  Having an extra sixty mouths to feed last year was a bit of a work load!

If anyone remembers this guy, I was hoping to get him up to size to breed back to his mother this year and find out if there's some het red axanthic floating around in there.  Unfortunately it's looking like she's going to ovulate in the next week or so and he's got no interest in breeding yet.  On the bright side, her being this close to ovulation seems to have been just what the kingpin needed to get things in gear!  Hopefully the results from this clutch will give us a better idea as far as if she's something special or not.

2010 hopeful breeders!

Friday, January 14th, 2011

I promised some updated pictures, so here they are!  These are the 2010 males that I either held back or picked up and am hoping will do some young breeding for us this season.

Kingpin eye candy!

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

The kingpin just had his first shed and we couldn't be happier with him!  Just got some pictures added to the gallery, just click the image to head over to it.

Good luck with the bad…

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Clutch 3 is out!  Final tally is 1.0 kingpin, 2.0 pinstripes, 2.2 enchis, and 1.0 normal.  Gotta say I'm pretty happy with the outcome!

Now for the bad luck.  Our spider female laid her clutch last night, and it ended up being mostly slugs.  Two good eggs and nine slugs.  We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for a lesser bee or stinger bee out of one of those eggs!

Kingpins in the making?

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Hope everyone had a good holiday!  We've been pretty busy around here and time has been flying by.  Not a whole lot of news around here, most of the ball pythons are still locking up.  No ovulations as of yet, but there is one girl who should be getting close.  We were hoping to produce some kingpins this year, but our big pinstripe girl hasn't seemed too interested in the lesser.  Throwing another girl in there with them seems to have done the trick though!
